Wellborn Community Center
& Cemetery Association
Wellborn. . .It's more than a place on the map. It's a way of life!
Our History
Originally known as Wellborn Station, the Wellborn community began as a construction camp in 1867 on the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. That same year, a post office opened and the Wellborn Cemetery was established.
By the mid-1880’s, Wellborn had become a shipping point for cattle and saw the development of a gristmill, churches, and a cotton gin.
Though the community was later incorporated into College Station, its long-time residents and their descendants maintain strong ties to one another. The annual Wellborn Picnic, sometimes called the Homecoming, is open to all and occurs the second Sunday of June in the newly-remodeled (2021) Wellborn Community Center.
